✔️ Why This Recipe is Great
Low Histamine Drink: I always get requests from readers for non-alcoholic drinks to enjoy in the summer, and this is one of my next drinks to add to the collection. If you'd like to spike it a bit, however, just swap the lime juice for 1-2oz. of vodka.
Virgin Moscow Mule: this is my answer to the vodka and ginger beer-based beverage not-so-popular in bars. As my low histamine alcohol guide covers, vodka is a big no-no on a low histamine diet, so I decided to swap it here for a touch of (optional) fresh lime juice.
Easy to Make & Batch: with just 4 ingredients and no blender needed, this moscow mule mocktail couldn't get much simpler. It's also very easy to make 8-10 times over for large groups, and even have kids make it themselves.
🍋🟩 Ingredients

Ginger Beer: Fever Tree is just an example of what brand of ginger beer you could use for a virgin Moscow Mule, though in my opinion it does the best job of capturing the bite of alcohol without actually adding any.
Fresh Lime Juice: though optional if you can't tolerate it, I find the lime juice to add to the sting of the overall drink, like some of the sharpness contributed by vodka.
Allulose Syrup or Simple Syrup: this adds balance to the beverage, and you can use a sugar-free granulated sweetener to make a microwave simple syrup if you don't have any on hand.
Mint Leaves: these are optional for a more traditional Moscow Mule mocktail. But if you want to use them, then you'll need roughly 6-8 fresh mint leaves for a single one, ideally using spearmint leaves (hierba buena).
🍸 How to Make Virgin Moscow Mule (Step-by-Step)
Step 1) In a large copper mug (or your mug of choice) muddle the lime wedge, mint leaves, and simple syrup (if using) (images 1 & 2).


Step 2) Then add the ice, stir lightly, and top with ginger beer, stirring lightly one more time. Finally, garnish with lime if desired, and enjoy (image 3)!

- Lower Sugar: Omit the simple syrup or replace it with ¼ teaspoon monk fruit extract for a naturally sweetened version.
- Extra Minty: Add additional fresh mint leaves for a stronger herbal flavor.
- Citrus Twist: Use lemon or orange wedges instead of lime if tolerated.
- Fizzy Fun: Swap plain ice for frozen fruit cubes (like blueberries or peeled pear cubes) to keep the drink cold and add subtle flavor.
- Ginger-Free Option: Use a mild ginger-flavored sparkling water if ginger is not tolerated.
- Mocktail Float: Add a splash of coconut water or coconut milk for a creamy twist.

If you make two servings of this mocktail but decide you only want one, you can freeze the extra serving, though it will lose a bit of the flavor intensity and any fizziness from any carbonated elements.
👨🏻🍳 Expert Notes & Tips
Brand of Ginger Beer: I quite enjoy the Fever Tree ginger beer, but it does have about 10g of sugar per serving, so if that's important to you, you may want to look for a low-sugar option. I like the Poppi brand of prebiotic drinks, but in a pinch some sparkling water with ginger simple syrup could also be a decent sub.
Moscow Mule Glass: there's no requirement to use the typical copper mug, which you can buy online, but it's helpful to use a heavy-bottomed glass with a handle to make the muddling easier.
Adjusting the Sweetness: adding more simple syrup or coconut sugar will increase the sweetness of the drink, though be careful not to add too much mint or it will throw the sharpness of the ginger beer mocktail off balance.
